Old City
It is no exaggeration to say that Old City is the cradle of Democracy. As anyone who's ever visited the Liberty Bell or Independence Hall can attest, a lot happened here.

Old City today is a vibrant, bustling neighborhood of mostly local businesses offering everything the modern urbanite needs, including several subway stations for zipping around Philly. And its riverside location makes for an easy start to your weekends away with quick access to everywhere via 95 and the beloved Ben Franklin Bridge.
Though very little 17th-century architecture exists anywhere in Philadelphia, history is alive and well in Old City. Independence Mall and the encircling neighborhood are prime spots for learning everything you've forgotten about early American history and Philadelphia's starring role in it. On the must-do list are Old Swedes' Church, Elfreth's Alley Museum, and the African American Museum. Grab a bevvy at Old City Coffee on Church St. to fuel your epic day.
It's hard to believe that in 1971, only a handful of people lived in all of Old City. Today, demand is high in this vibrant, accessible neighborhood. From historic rowhouses to sleek low-rise condos, Old City has something for everyone.
